I have been using FatCow’s hosting services for over a year now to host a site for a non-profit, and the experience has been incredibly frustrating.
Setting up MySQL connectivity to the site is impossible – I spent countless hours trying to tinker with the PHP settings and on the phone/chat/email with customer support to find out why I could not access my databases from my website. The customer support was awful and marked my issue as “resolved” without having fixed a thing. I ended up switching all my code to a SQLlite database.
Today, I tried adding FTP users to no avail – I get an unexplained error that prevents me from doing so.
I would never use FatCow, but the non-profit who I manage the page for had already paid for their services. I would not recommend FatCow to anyone hosting a page requiring any level of dynamic content – a blog, etc.
Look to GoDaddy, LunarPages, or even Site5 instead.

hi Tyler,
first of all, this fatcow review is wordpress blog running mysql database at the back end at fatcow hosting server. Its a working solution and can get the connection working. As you can see, this website with mysql database is working fine.
note that hosting company will not assist in script debugging. if you are using custom scripts, its necessary to debug it and make sure its running. Alternatively, i personally suggest you try to setup wordpress blog (a common scripts, any script), and try to get it running, if it work, then there is nothing wrong with the “database connection”.
also note that fatcow database server is not using “localhost”,.. check from fatcow vdeck, make sure its like “youraccount.fatcowmysql.com”
for fatcow ftp, last few days, fatcow and other vdeck hosting company are requesting their account owner to change their account password, this effect the ftp login as well. Its require to login vdeck with the new password sent to your email, and get your new password setup. Once you are done, update your ftp login with the new password too.
i am using godaddy, lunarpages, and site5 hosting.
Its my experience and observation that fatcow hosting quality is far exceeding these three.
